Firopotamos Bay

Almost at the very northern end of the island of Milos is a beautiful bay with a picturesque fishing village.

It is an ideal spot for those who like to swim in calm water without waves. Moreover, you can enjoy here a short walk to the pretty village with only a few houses and white church. You can get to the bay Firopotamos either along relatively wide (considering local roads) asphalt road leading to the quarry at the northern end of the island and bypassing dense housing of town Triovasalos, or along a narrow small road leading not only to Firopotamos, but also to another tiny backwater beach Plathiena. This bay will amaze you already on arrival. Thanks to its calm water is ideal for families with young children, swimmers and kayakers. The beach itself is approximately 100 meters long. There is a little snack bar with sun loungers and beach umbrellas. But most of the beach is free. At the end of the reef are a few summer houses. Aside from swimming and sunbathing, you can also have a short walk to the village with fishermen's houses called “wires”, which are so typical for Milos. From the village is also a gracious view of the entire beach. On the western side of the bay is more than a kilometer long reef. A favorite spot for kayak cruises.

Our Hints for Firopotamos

1. A walk in the village

Walk among the houses of Fyropotamos, travel along with the colorful doors. Explore all the stairs that descend to the harbor and get pictures that will remain unforgettable. The little harbor is also suitable for babies and children for sea bathing.
2. The church

The orthodox church of the village is one of its most characteristic features. The church is dedicated to Saint Nikolaos and has his name. You can enter since the door is always unlocked. Adjacent to the church, the area is suitable for diving.
3. The old mine factory

Follow the path that continues after the church to go to the ruins of the old quarry processing area (located behind the village). The big door dominates imposingly by staring at the blueness of the Aegean. After this place, steep rocks end up in deep waters.
4. The Voladakia islands

To the left of the bay you will see two little islands called Voladakia or Turtles (due to their shape). Swim down there (not very far away) or go by your sea bed and climb over them. The big island is also suitable for dives of any height you want.
